#Champs2025: KC’s Amani Phillips cops first gold in Class 2 long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kingston College’s Amani Philips won the first gold of the 115th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships after he won the boys’ Class Two long jump 7.15m (1.6m/s) on Wednesday at the National Stadium.
Phillips, who had won the bronze medal last year, had his best jump in the final round but his next best mark, a wind-aided 7.14m (3.2m/s) would have still won the gold medal as St Elizabeth Technical’s Rodeeki Walters, the leader after Tuesday’s preliminaries was second with 7.09m (0.0m/s), moving from fifth place.
Excelsior High’s Michael Graham was third with a wind-aided 7.02m, moving up from fourth last year.
