#Champs2025: Hydel and Holmwood well poised in girls’ 400m
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Hydel High and Holmwood Technical are well set to score heavily in Thursday’s finals of the Girls’ 400m as they will be well represented in all three finals after Wednesday’s semi-finals at the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Hydel High’s Abigail Campbell is on course to retain her Class One gold medal after she led the qualifying with 53.30 seconds ahead of Edwin Allen’s KellyAnn Carr, who is expected to be her main challenger.
Holmwood’s pair of Abrina Wright, who ran 54.24 seconds, and Kristen Herbert, who clocked 54.39 seconds, will carry the flag for their school.
Immaculate Conception’s Davine Dickenson is also through to the finals after running 54.35 seconds.
In Class Two, Hydel’s Nastassia Fletcher, who was third last year, was the fastest in the semis, running 53.08 seconds, with her teammate Sashanna Johnson next best with 53.97 seconds.
Shanika Lindsay of Alphansus Davis ran 54.85 seconds to advance, so did Vere Technical’s Jesena Williams who ran 55.03 seconds.
Carifta Trials Under -17 champion Shameika McLean of Foga Road broke up Hydel’s monopoly as she led the Class Three qualifiers with 54.79, ahead of St Jago High’s Jamilia Alves 56.22 seconds with the Holmwood Technical pair of Ashley Wynter 57.37 seconds and Tracey Ann Evans 55.55 seconds, also making progress.
