King Diel hosts Pretty Melanin Soirée
...celebrates women through music
To be celebrated, not just acknowledged, is a feeling that defined the Pretty Melanin Soirée, held in recognition of International Women’s Month, at Fumes Shisha Bar & Lounge on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Hosted by reggae recording artiste Adiel “King Diel” Thomas, the event honoured the essence of women, blending music, style, and appreciation in an electric atmosphere.
Specially invited ladies were welcomed with well-crafted cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
As the evening progressed King Diel took the stage, opening with a cover of Beres Hammond’s Feel Good,
During his set the artiste paused to share his inspiration for hosting the event: “I wanted to create a space where women feel truly appreciated, where they can come together, enjoy great music, and just be celebrated for all that they are. My songs are a tribute to the beauty, strength, and essence of women.”
The energy in the room shifted as he moved into his originals, among them Pretty Melanin, Soft Life, and Nostalgia.
For King Diel, Pretty Melanin was born out of a deep recognition of the struggles and stereotypes faced by black women. He reflected on how, in his earlier years, he saw and heard the negative perceptions surrounding these women who, in his eyes, have always been queens. This inspired him to write the song as an ode to black women, celebrating their beauty and strength in the face of adversity.
“I wanted to create a song that challenges the stigma and reminds black women of their value. They are queens, and I wanted
Pretty Melanin to be an anthem that uplifts and empowers them,” he explained. “This event is my way of extending that message.”
He also treated the audience to covers of Can I Call You Rose by Thee Sacred Souls, Cruisin’ by Smokey Robinson, and
Let Me Love You by Mario, earning cheers and applause.
The event also served as a preview to King Diel’s upcoming album as he prepares to share more of his craft later this year.
