Jones elected to Pan Am Boxing Confederation executive
JAMAICA Boxing Association’s President Stephen Jones was elected to sit on the Pan American Boxing Confederation executive at its congress which was held in Panama City, Panama, recently.
Jones says he is honoured to have been elected to the board.
“It’s a huge step forward for Jamaica and Caribbean boxing as being on the board allows us to have direct input in shaping policies and developmental programmes that will impact the entire region,” Jones said.
“So, it gives Jamaica a voice at the decision-making table — which ensures that our boxers and programmes receive the necessary attention, funding, and opportunities to grow on the international stage — so I think it’s a big step and I welcome the opportunity and the responsibility.”
The congress brought together members of the 18 national federations across the continent that form this new organisation. Elise Seignolle (USA) was elected as president of the confederation, marking the beginning of a new era for Pan American boxing, with the goal of strengthening and promoting the sport in the region.
During the congress, the proposed agenda was unanimously approved and the statutes of the Pan American Boxing Confederation were ratified, establishing the legal and operational foundations of the organisation.
The election of the executive committee was conducted with the positions of president, audit and finance committee chair elected by acclamation.
