Don’t burst our bubble!
Dear Editor,
On Monday, March 20, 2025, while at work, I received a call from my neighbour that literally made me leap for joy.
The news came that road repairs were being done on our avenue. For years it had progressively deteriorated. I could hardly wait to get home to behold this good fortune that had descended on the community.
Whatever the motive for identifying our road as a priority is secondary to us. It is being fixed. It is unclear whether the road repairs are being done at the national or local level. The blame-game era of who is responsible for repairs to side roads seems to no longer be in effect.
By the time I reached home the workmen had gone. But the fruit of their labour over several days is evident. They had partially removed some of the road surface, filled the potholes with marl, and compacted using a roller.
There was a collective sigh of relief from motorists and pedestrians alike. Then it stopped, abruptly! The absence of the workmen became glaring for even the blind to see.
Fast-forward and we are still perplexed, wondering where they went? Was it a mistake that they came to our road? Why have they not returned to finish the work, which entails laying barber greene? Are they going to wait for it to rain so that the road can revert to its former state?
Please, do not burst our bubble
