Woman charged for overseas work and travel con
A 59-year-old Westmoreland businesswoman has been charged for fraudulent conversion and simple larceny after she was accused of charging a man $400,000 to secure a work and travel opportunity, then threatening to kill him when he asked for a refund.
The woman, from Cedar Walk, Petersfield, reportedly told the complainant she could secure for him an overseas work and travel opportunity for $400,000. The man reportedly made several payments to her, but after he had paid the full amount she was unable to provide any updates on the programme. When he requested a refund and visited her multiple times to collect his money, she took his cellphone and threatened to have him killed, the police said.
The events took place between November 2020 and February 2022.
The Savanna-la-Mar police reported that the woman was taken into custody recently after the man reported the matter.
A court date is being finalised for her.
