JUNO nominee Lazah Current takes AI to task
Over the past few years, the conversation surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) has gotten louder in various quarters.
JUNO-nominated and Canada-based reggae artiste Lazah Current has added his voice to the conversation with the release of the song titled AI.
Released in February, AI is a co-production between LR Productions and Lazah Records.
“There have been many conversations disseminating the many ideas and benefits of AI over the years. This has been potent information, of course, with the objective of selling the AI product,” Lazah Current said in an interview with Observer Online recently.
“A series of happenings that alerted I to the advancement and depth of the AI idea was the hundreds of Elon Musk’s space x falcon 9 rockets launched into outer space,” he continued. “I understood at that point that something big was a foot. And then, what was amazing was when I saw the use of robots doing construction work so precise and rapid that I truly understood the extent of humans contending with robots for jobs.”
The Kendal, Manchester-born singer was recently on the island promoting AI and he is pleased with the response.
“The highlight of those appearances was being on the world renowned ‘Rub-A-Dub Thursday’ platform. The impact of my performances has resulted in industry players here in Canada showing and giving I much love and respect for the impact that I had on that platform, which is definitely a very good feeling, knowing the type of audience we have here in Canada,” he shared.
Lazah Current was nominated twice for the JUNO Award, Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy. He earned a Reggae Recording of the Year nod in 1995 for his self-titled project, and again in 1999 for the album Glorious Ride.
