World Indoors: Nugent bags bronze for first global medal at senior level
Ackera Nugent won her first global medal at the senior level as she took bronze in the women’s 60m hurdles on Sunday’s final day of the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, running a season’s best 7.74 seconds.
After disappointments at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2023 and again at the Olympic Games in Paris last year, the Jamaican national record holder put together her best race of the weekend. She had recovered from a slow start to win the first round race, then hit two hurdles in the semis where she was second.
Her compatriot Amoi Brown was eighth in 8.07 seconds in her first global senior final as Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas retained her title with a season’s best 7.72 seconds ahead of world leader Ditaji Kambunbdji of Switzerland, who was second with 7.73 seconds.
