Police announce security measures for ‘Champs’
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police are urging patrons to adhere to strict security measures at the Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships, popularly known as ‘Champs’, which will take place at the National Stadium from Tuesday, March 25 to Saturday, March 29.
In a public advisory, the police outlined several restrictions on items that will not be allowed inside the venue. Prohibited items include firearms, knives, ice picks, machetes, firecrackers, aerosol sprays, large igloos, glass bottles, lighters, frozen water or drinks, drugs, alcohol, and umbrellas with pointed tips.
Licensed firearm holders are reminded to make alternative arrangements for the safekeeping of their weapons, as no storage facilities will be available at the stadium or the Stadium Police Station. Additionally, they are strongly warned against leaving firearms in their vehicles.
All patrons will be subject to searches upon entry, and smoking is strictly prohibited inside the stadium. Those found in violation of these rules may be asked to leave.
The police are encouraging the public to comply with these regulations to ensure a safe and successful championship event.
