Legacy Isle to leave rivals in the dust in Omar Walker Trophy race
Legacy Isle, the Rohan Crichton-conditioned five-year-old American-bred bay horse, is looking to bounce back from a disappointing seasonal debut when he trots out for the $1.25-million Omar Walker Trophy this afternoon. Despite that setback, he’s expected to dominate the competition, going the minimum trip on the round course at five furlongs (1,000m).
Legacy Isle’s disappointing seasonal debut in the Miracle Man Cup on January 1 was a surprise to many, as he was expected to blow away the competition. However, he pulled up during the running of the seven-furlong (1,400m) race and did not finish after being the firm 1-2 favourite. Legacy Isle has been training impressively since then, catching pigeons in the mornings and showing a lot of speed and agility.
Legacy Isle is looking fierce. On March 8, he galloped four furlongs in 47.2 seconds, and then cantered nine furlongs over three consecutive days from March 12 to 14. But the real show-stopper was on March 15, when he galloped five furlongs in a blistering 58.0 seconds, with four furlongs coming in at 45.1 seconds out of the starting gates. With this level of performance, it’s no wonder he’s expected to dominate the Omar Walker Trophy.
With his impressive training sessions and his natural talent, Legacy Isle is expected to dominate this field and make a strong statement. He has the potential to be one of the country’s top-class horses, and this race could be the starting point for a successful campaign.
Legacy Isle’s breeding also suggests that he has the potential for greatness. His sire, Shackleford, was a Grade 1 winner, and his dam, Queenameina, has produced several winners. With his pedigree and natural ability, Legacy Isle is definitely what they called in racing ‘A Five-Star Banker’.
This Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward is positioned as seventh event on the nine-race card with a post time of 4:15 pm. First race is expected to get under way at 12:15 pm.
The real test in this race, and it is a very important one, is to find which horse will run second behind Legacy Isle. With Perfect Brew, Joy Is Golden, Freedom Street, and Sensational Move all on the same level, anyone of them can fill the runner-up spot, making this a thrilling competition.
Perfect Brew finished a good second behind Geolithic over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on March 8 and he should also go well at this shorter distance and earn a place here.
Joy Is Golden is a very consistent sort who can only hope for a minor placing. She has been running well in her recent outings, but this might be a bit too challenging for her against Legacy Isle, but she has the capability to challenge for that second place.
Freedom Street can only can be taken on trust here. Freedom Street has been inconsistent in his recent performances, and it’s hard to predict how he will run but he has back class and that could help him here.
Sensational Move is another consistent runner who should run well and could fill the exacta spot. Sensational Move has been running steadily and might be able to sneak into the top two based on his class and talent.
