Former hotel employee pleads guilty to larceny charges
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A woman who admitted to pocketing more than US$4,000 from two guests who were checking into a prominent Montego Bay hotel has been granted bail until April 24 when it is expected that a social inquiry report will be ready.
Devonese Royce, who appeared before presiding Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to larceny as a servant.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on October 15, 2024 while Royce was employed to the hotel.
Police reports indicate that she accepted a total of US$4,637 from the two customers, placed the money in her handbag immediately after, checked out of the property, and never returned. The guests were unaware that the rooms had not been paid for. When the matter was uncovered, a report was made to the police which resulted in Royce being arrested and charged.
After the allegations were outlined in court, Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce requested a social inquiry report and deferred sentencing.
