Dockery ready to take Class One sprint double at Champs, says coach
Lacovia High School’s Head Coach Kamille Ennis is brimming with confidence ahead of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships, as her marquee sprinter Sabrina Dockery gears up for a golden campaign in the Class One sprints.
The five-day championships is slated to begin Tuesday.
Dockery, who finished second in the 100m in Class Two at last year’s championships, has been in remarkable form so far this season. She is the fastest Class One athlete heading into the championships in both the 100m and 200m, boasting impressive times of 11.30 seconds and 23.43 seconds, respectively.
“She is all pumped and excited, and as a coach, I think she is ready,” Ennis said.
“She has put out the work. Hard training, dedication, and consistency are key for us. I think that based on the shape she is in, she is now ready to take on both the 100m and 200m gold medals at Champs this year. I am very confident that she has the capacity to win both titles,” she said.
Dockery has already proven her dominance this season, securing the sprint double at the Western Championships.
Additionally, she claimed victory in the Under-20 100m at the Carifta Games last month, defeating Muschett High School standout Shanoya Douglas, a world Under-20 200m bronze medallist.
Some fans dreaming of a rematch at Champs would have been disappointed, as Douglas remains in Class Two this year.
Ennis pointed to Dockery’s improved focus and refinement of her race execution.
“She is more focused compared to previous years, and she has sharpened up on a few things that were lacking. Now, she is more confident in taking on both the 100m and 200m events at Champs.”
While Dockery’s times are the fastest going into the championships, Ennis noted that the ultimate goal is to secure victories.
“It is not about time because all we want her to do is go into the competition and win both races. But we are expecting a personal best, though I will not be putting any times on her because we just want her to go out there and finish healthy.”
