Minimum wage to be increased to $16,000 effective June 1 – Holness
The national minimum wage will be increased by $1,000 to $16,000 per 40-hour work week effective June 1.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement Thursday during his contribution to the 2025/26 Budget Debate.
“This latest increase to $16,000 represents an unprecedented 158 per cent increase over nine years,” the prime minister said to sustained applause from Government members.
He said cumulative inflation over that period “remains well below this rate”.
The minimum wage was last increased on June 1 last year when it moved to $15,000 per week from $13,000. Like he did on Thursday, the prime minister used his 2024 Budget Debate presentation to announce the increase.
