Tivoli Gardens into play-off spot in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica —Tivoli Gardens are in the top six in the Jamaic⁸a Premier League after beating Dunbeholden FC 4-2 in their third-round game played at Dunbeholden on Wednesday.
Anthony Nelson scored twice for Tivoli Gardens who were winning a third straight game, scoring 10 goals in the process and moving to 42 points, one point ahead of Racing United who have two games in hand and Waterhouse FC, who came from a goal down at home to beat Vere United 2-1.
Tivoli Gardens took the lead in the first minute when Roshawn Oldfield scored, but the teams were tied at 1-1 at half time after Damion Binns scored for Dunbeholden FC in time added.
Nelson took his goal tally to 11 when he scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half, restoring their lead in the 47th minute and then making the score 3-1 in the 50th minute.
Tyrese Wynter, who was subbed into the game in the 61st minute, pulled Dunbeholden to within a goal when he scored in the 68th minute but Lennox Russell added a fourth for Tivoli Gardens in the 81st minute.
In the second game of a double-header at Drewsland stadium, Waterhouse FC rallied with two goals in the last 20 minutes to beat Vere United in a physical game that saw either team finish the game with 10 players.
Kevaun Atkinson of Vere United and Elvis Wilson of Waterhouse FC were both sent off for violent conduct in a game that saw five cautions as well.
Denzil McKenzie gave Vere United the lead after the 31st minute but Leonardo Jibbison headed Waterhouse FC into a tie in the 70th minute before Andre Fletcher scored his 10th goal of the season, three minutes into time added as Waterhouse snapped a run of four games where they failed to win.
In the first game at Drewsland, Portmore United beat Harbour View FC 2-0 to take their winning run to three games.
Jahien Rose scored the opening goal in the 34th minute and Orlando Russell came off the bench to score the second in the 79th minute.
