Education Ministry saddened by sudden death of Christiana High footballer

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information has expressed condolences to the families and friends of the sixth-form student from Christiana High who died after falling ill during football training at the institution on Tuesday.

The student, who collapsed during training, was rushed to Percy Junor Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said it has activated its grief and trauma support teams and plans to visit the school and the family to offer counselling and emotional support.

“The entire education community is mourning the loss of this bright young student. His untimely passing is a devastating loss to his family, friends and school. Our hearts go out to them, and the ministry is committed to providing any support necessary during this incredibly difficult time,” Portfolio Minister, Senator Dana Morris Dixon said while expressing her condolences.
