Sanchez praises Jamdown
Jamdown, the new album from Sanchez, will be released on April 11 by VPAL Music.
It is produced by Kenneth Thompson for Kenergi Music Entertainment, who wrote or co-wrote all 10 songs.
This is the veteran singer’s first album since 2011’s Love You More, which was produced by Donovan Germain for Penthouse Records.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Sanchez spoke about the differences between the albums.
“[They are] exceptionally different in many ways. The lyrics were written by myself and Kenneth Thompson, and the rhythms are grass roots symphonies from some of the greatest producers in the business, and some original rhythms,” he said.
The title track is a heartfelt ode to Jamaica, despite its economic and social woes.
Hot Girl, Disloyalty, and Desperate Man are other songs on the set which Sanchez describes as “extremely intimate and something almost everyone can relate to”.
The New York-based Thompson called most of the shots on Jamdown, with multi-instrumentalist Paul Gauntlett playing the majority of instruments. Wayne Armond handled song arrangements, as well as harmonies with Tafina Wilson.
It has been almost 40 years since Sanchez first hit the charts with the Winston Riley-produced Loneliness, a cover of Jermaine Jackson’s Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone.
A flurry of hit singles in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, including End Of The World, Never Dis Di Man and Fall in Love, made him a dancehall heavyweight.
On August 6 2022, Sanchez’s endurance was recognised by the Jamaican Government. He received an Icon Award from Prime Minister Andrew Holness during the Diamond Jubilee Grand Gala celebrations at the National Stadium in St Andrew.
Sanchez, 60, credits divine guidance for his long career.
“God Almighty is the master of this universe. He has kept me thus far and staying true to him allows me to be true to my music,” he said.
