Reggae Youths, Flankers FC clash in St James FA/Sandals Major League first leg semifinal
MONTEGO BAY, St James- Reggae Youths and Flankers FC, winners of their respective zones after the first round of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League will be seeking to take the lead after today’s first legs of the semi-finals to be played at Jarrett Park.
Two-time winners Reggae Youths, who topped Zone A, will take on Zone B runners up Green Pond SC in the first game while Flankers FC, winners in Zone B, face Zone A runners-up Lilliput Rovers in the second game.
The return legs will be played next weekend with the winners on aggregate qualifying for the final that will be played at a date to be announced.
Reggae Youths who beat Lilliput Rovers 5-3 in their final first round game, topped Zone A with 18 points, four more than Lilliput Rovers who edged Wadada United on goal-difference after both finished on 14 points.
Flankers FC, who had beaten Norwood Strikers 4-0 in their final game, tallied 24 points to win Zone B, well ahead of Green Pond SC who finished on 19 points after battering Cambridge FC 11-0.
Garth Bromwell all but sewed up the top goal scorer award after he scored seven goals in Green Pond SC’s romp over Cambridge FC, taking his tally for the season to 12.
Bromwell scored five times in the first half as Green Pond SC led 5-0 at the break before adding two more in the second half while, Jamari Roach, Wayne Gordon, Farrel Ferguson and Ketana Dawkins also added their names to the score sheet.
Sebastian Robinson scored a hat-trick for Reggae Youths in their win over 10-man Lilliput Rovers while Natoneil Wilson and Anthony Gooden also scored. Keyanta Clarke, Amari Reid and Mario Leslie scored for Lilliput Rovers.
Lilliput Rovers played most of the game with 10 men after Miguel Whitelock was sent off in the first half and will miss the first leg of the semi-finals.
Wade Daley, Tevin Fuller, Evardo Chambers and Romain Roper scored for Flankers FC in their 4-0 win over Norwood Strikers, while Montego Bay Boys Club edged Heights FC 1-0 with Ranaldo Thompson scoring the game’s only goal.
In one other game, last season’s champions Granville United beat Bogue FC 6-1 with Amaro Robinson leading the way with a double.
