Caribbean Governments seeking clarification over reported US travel ban proposal
WASHINGTON, United States — Several Caribbean governments have reportedly reached out to the United States (US) for information after their inclusion on a potential travel ban list according to reports from the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).
Six Caribbean countries are included on the proposed list shared by the New York Times Saturday.
The Government of St Lucia was the most recent to indicate it is “actively seeking clarification” on the media reports that its citizens could face travel restrictions from the US.
In a statement shared by the Office of the Prime Minister, the St Lucian government said no formal communication had yet come from the US on the potential restrictions.
According to CMC, St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda are also seeking word from the US.
The draft list divides countries into three tiers, a “red” list including 11 countries facing a complete travel ban including Cuba. The next tier is an “orange” list of 10 countries with restricted travel which includes Haiti, and a “yellow” list of 22 nations including St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis and Dominica.
