Press Association of Jamaica mourns death of veteran journalist Owen James
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist Owen James, remembering him as a trailblazer in business journalism who made a lasting impact on the local media landscape.
James, who dedicated nearly five decades to journalism, was well known for his business programmes on Television Jamaica and CVM Television. He began his career at the Gleaner Company, later becoming editor of The Star, and played a key role in shaping journalism in Jamaica.
During his tenure at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) in the early 1980s, James helped develop a generation of journalists who went on to make significant contributions to the industry.
Recognising the need for greater focus on business news, he pioneered programmes such as A Ray of Hope, The Business Day, The Business Review, and On a Personal Note. His later project, The Owen James Report, further cemented his reputation as a leader in financial journalism.
PAJ President Dashan Hendricks extended condolences to James’ family, friends and colleagues, emphasising his legacy as a mentor, innovator and advocate for quality journalism.
