Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications, and Transport Daryl Vaz, in an update, said members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade have managed to contain the fire.

“So I can confirm that I have heard from the operators of the Norman Manley International Airport and also the Airports Authority of Jamaica that there has been an incident at the Norman Manley Airport this evening where an air-conditioned unit caught fire in a part of the departure terminal, which created smoke throughout the entire air-conditioned system, causing evacuation of the airport. The fire is under control, the fire brigade is there, and also there is one incoming flight, a British Airways flight that’s on the tarmac that will await the clearance and will likely be delayed from departing tonight,” the transport minister said.
