Flow customers also affected by service disruptions due to vandalism
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Telecommunications company Flow says its services have also been impacted by “significant” vandalism which affected Digicel customers early Tuesday.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms any acts that damage, disrupt or otherwise interfere with the company’s network and its associated infrastructure,” Flow said in an afternoon statement.
“The true value of what lies in those cables is connectivity, and in today’s digital age, the services we provide are essential for communication, work, healthcare, education, and entertainment, and it is the backbone for the proper functioning of our society,” the company continued.
Flow stressed that there were also public safety concerns attached to tampering with fibre optic cables and urged residents not to interfere with them, describing them as “vital for Jamaica’s continued growth and development”.
Digicel had confirmed the damage was due to multiple fibre breaks at its international landing stations early Tuesday morning amid widespread complaints from customers.
