Card, Dockery impress at Carifta Trials
Wolmer’s Boys’ Gary Card and Lacovia’s Sabrina Dockery delivered impressive performances to capture the boys’ and girls’ Under-20 100m titles at the Carifta Trials at GC Foster College in St Catherine on Friday.
Card clocked 10.21 seconds to win the event, finishing ahead of Calabar’s Shaquane Gordon (10.36) and Jamal Stephenson (10.41). Dockery was equally dominant, storming to victory in 11.30 seconds. Muschett’s Shanoya Douglas, the pre-race favourite, finished second in 11.35, while Wolmer’s Abigail Wolfe secured third place in 11.63.
Jaydon Collins of Holmwood turned back a strong field to win the boys’ Under-17 100m final in 10.60 seconds, edging out Excelsior’s Michael Graham, who clocked 10.63. In the girls’ equivalent, Adora Campbell of St Jago powered to victory in 11.59, finishing ahead of St Mary’s Shayon Smith, who ran 11.73.
Marla-Kay Lampart of Clarendon College claimed the girls’ Under-20 shot put title with a throw of 14.60 meters. Excelsior’s Kimeka Smith placed second with a mark of 14.10m, just ahead of her teammate Gianna Clayton, who registered 14.07m. In the girls’ Under-17 event, Immaculate Conception’s Jamie-Lee Tulloch took gold with a mark of 12.27m, followed by Excelsior’s Zoeyann Plummer (11.38m) and St Elizabeth Technical’s Davieka Lewis (10.66m).
Calabar’s Kamari Kennedy dominated the boys’ Under-17 shot put competition, winning with a throw of 18.82m. Munro College’s Brandon Lawrence finished second with 15.32m, while Jamaica College’s Xhaevion Kelly recorded 17.79m for third place.
Selethel Johnson captured the boys’ Under-20 high jump title with a best mark of 1.90m. He edged out St Jago’s Nikaro Johnson, who also cleared 1.90m but needed three attempts compared to Johnson’s two, giving the latter the victory.
In the girls’ Under-17 high jump, Hydel’s Zavien Bernard soared to 1.75m to secure gold, ahead of St Mary’s High Sackoya Palmer (1.70m) and Wolmers’ Kariecia Morrison (1.65m).
