Rotary KEPR partners for Peace Month
The Rotary Club of Kingston East & Port Royal (KEPR), in partnership with Port Royal Primary School and the Port Royal Citizens Association, hosted the Rotary International Peace Month Celebration at the newly minted Port Royal Beach Park Gazebo and Event Site.
This event, held on Thursday, February 27 at midday, brought together young voices to share their perspectives on the theme, ‘How can adults help to create a more peaceful, conflict-free world?’
The initiative received valuable support from Crime Stop and Peace and Love in Society (PALS), reinforcing a strong commitment to peace-building within the community.
The event featured six student presentations. They were challenged to present unique skits, songs, poems, or spoken-word positions on the peace-building theme.
Zyae Murphy and Jamelia Simpson’s duet copped first place, with second lace going to Christina Troupe, and third place Abigail Brown and Jhana Hinds (duet).
Joseph Halstead, president of KEPR, stressed the importance of listening to the wisdom of young minds, stating: “When children give us advice with such clarity and ease, we should listen and act upon their advice.”
The event was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Book Zone, Business Works, KEPR, and Joan Latty Realty, who provided prizes to recognise the students’ efforts and creativity.
Following the success of this initiative, discussions are under way to make this an annual transformational event, ensuring continued youth engagement in peace advocacy.
