Policeman held with ganja at Horizon prison, charged
A policeman has been charged after he was reportedly held with ganja at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road in Kingston.
Charged with dealing in ganja and bringing prohibited articles into a correctional centre is District Constable Robert Campbell, 25, from Point Hill in St Catherine.
Campbell, who is stationed at Detention and Courts, was charged Thursday following a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODDP).
Reports reaching Observer Online indicated that Campbell was held with the illegal items around 7:00 am last Friday while in the barrack room of the correctional centre.
It is understood that the policeman was changing his clothes and getting ready for work when a small parcel fell from his pocket, and he quickly stepped on it.
This aroused the suspicion of the corporal who supervised him. The object was retrieved by his supervisor and found to be vegetable matter resembling ganja.
The accused man’s knapsack was searched in his presence, and several parcels containing vegetable matter resembling ganja, vegetable matter resembling tobacco, a USB cable, $20,650 cash, a pack of Rizzla and a lighter were found.
The policeman was taken into custody, and a file prepared and submitted to the ODPP. He was subsequently charged following the ruling.
