Flowers for classics
February 9, 2025 saw the Jamaica Classic Car Club (JCCC) head out to Plantation Cove, Richmond, St Ann, for their usual members’ meeting as part of the show put on by Ocho Rios Orchid Society.
“The Jamaican Classic Car Club has been collaborating with the Ocho Rios Orchid Society for about nine years now. We’ve been in attendance at this annual event of theirs for about the same length of time,” Naresh Potopsingh, president, JCCC, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The JCCC holds monthly members’ meetings to keep the classic car community as active as possible. Rather than have their cars sitting at home, these events encourage owners to not only use their vehicles, but provide a treat for the public, young and old.
While Kingston is a central source, the club does head out of the Corporate Area from time to time to ensure there is interaction with classics all over the island.
“We like going to different venues, getting in touch with persons from the specific areas, and publicising our events,” said Potopsingh.
Ocho Rios Orchid Society’s show saw some of the Kingston-based classic car owners make the trek to share their passion with their fellow enthusiasts in the St Ann area.
“We had about 22 cars show up,” he said, adding “The Ocho Rios Orchid Society’s show was good. We had a good gathering and some enthusiastic members from St Ann. We were happy to be there as usual.”
The classics in attendance received lots of attention from patrons when they weren’t browsing the show vendors.
Potopsingh is awaiting the upcoming annual general meeting after which discussions of having a classic car show should begin in earnest.
