KC head coach Grant to step down at end of season
KINGSTON, Jamaica — After more than five years at the helm, Leaford Grant has indicated that he will be stepping down as head coach of Kingston College at the end of this season, bringing an end to a highly successful tenure.
During his time in charge, Grant has led the North Street-based institution to four ISSA Boys Championships titles in the last five years, cementing his legacy as one of the school club’s most successful coaches.
Grant told Observer Online in an exclusive interview that it was time for new leadership with fresh energy to guide the team forward. “After doing it for over 30 years, I kind of feel now that the time has come when probably younger people can put some sort of energy into it,” Grant said.
“When you are coaching at a school like Kingston College, it comes with a lot of energy and hard work to get a big team to where you want it to be competitive every year. When you have done it for so many years, you need new dynamic people to come in and put in the necessary work.”
KC will be aiming for their 36th hold on the boys championships trophy at next month’s event, which will be held at the National Stadium from March 25-29.
As he prepares to step aside, Grant expressed confidence that the foundation he has built will continue to support the team’s future growth and competitiveness.
