Dancehall Week 2025 starts with bangVillage at Ranny Williams Centre offers free entry
Dancehall Week 2025 has kicked off its week of activities at the Dancehall Village now erected on the lawns of Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew.
This year’s iteration is billed as a celebration of Jamaica’s iconic dancehall culture, scheduled from February 23 to March 2.
This event showcases the vibrancy of the dancehall scene through a plethora of activities, including live performances, workshops, business expos, and cultural exhibitions.
Endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports, as well as the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, the observation highlights the significant role of dancehall in both local and global contexts.
The official Dancehall Village is free to enter for all patrons throughout Dancehall Week, including participation in all seminars and workshops.
On Tuesday, February 25, at 1:00 pm there will be a seminar title ‘Cannabis and its dependency on dancehall with Dub Squad Tuesday Service late evening.
Maurice Ellis, vice-president of the Ganja Growers and Producers Association Of Jamaica (GGPAJ); Marcus Goffe, attorney-at-law; Theresa Kozak, programs coordinator at Cannabiziac; and Maxine Stowe, CEO, Rasta Ganja Global, will address the seminar.
There will be in-depth discussions and engagement with experts on the historical and contemporary role of cannabis in shaping dancehall’s identity and understanding how cannabis has influenced lyrical themes, artistic expression, and performance styles within the genre.
On Wednesday at 10:00 am there will be a Business of entertainment expo with a 7:00 pm workshop on rhythm creation at 7:00 pm.
Friday will see Dancehall Fashion Frenzy with Boom Boom and Stone Love hosted by D’Angel with other events leading into the weekend.
