Guyanese businessman assisting police as they probe murder of his wife
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Police say a 32-year-old businessman is assisting their investigations into the death of his wife, who was shot at least 12 times at their home in Diamond, East Bank Demerara, Guyana during an apparent domestic violence matter last weekend.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), said that the businessman had arrived at his home on Saturday night and got into an argument with his reputed wife, Kenesha Vaughn, 27.
The police said the man slapped the woman during the argument and told investigators that she armed herself with a knife in retaliation and was charging towards him when he whipped out his licensed firearm and shot her multiple times.
The police said they were summoned to the home where officers found the woman, who is also the mother of their child, bleeding on the floor.
She was rushed to the Diamond Hospital where she passed away while being treated for 12 gunshot wounds, the police said, adding that during their visit to the murder scene, they discovered four 9mm cases and three suspected projectiles.
The police said the businessman had been taken into custody and that a breathalyser test showed the results were significantly higher than the legally prescribed limit of 35 per cent.
