Strictly Mas makes début Easter weekend
Two entertainment powerhouses, the retro party series Strictly 2K and Xodus Carnival, have joined forces to stage the first-ever Strictly Mas scheduled for April 19 over the Easter weekend.
Dubbed the ultimate Jamaica Carnival kick-off, the drink-inclusive fete experience promises to deliver throwback soca music from some of the biggest DJs locally and regionally.
Ibrahim Konteh, director of communications for Strictly 2K, explained how the collaboration between both entities came about.
“We have partnered with Xodus Carnival before as a marketer of one of their costumes in 2023. So when the idea came to expand our brand into the soca arena, it was a no-brainer. Us being the biggest throwback music festival in the Caribbean and Xodus the biggest band, it was a fitting partnership,” said Konteh.
Strictly 2K targets a mostly college and university demographic with its serving of throwback music. Its move into soca is a new one for the brand.
“We’re expanding our brand 433 Entertainment. This is the first step with the growing and expanding soca market. Look out for more events with the long-term plan of new partnerships,” said Konteh, who added that the move would not impact its core demographic.
“They’re excited about this more than anything. For years they’ve been asking for new fun and exciting concepts. We’ve tested this amongst our fan base, and they love it,” Konteh disclosed.
According to Konteh, the initial partnership is for three years.
“The partnership is for three years with plans to grow it and expand. We both share a common goal of making soca, Carnival and Easter Weekend in Ocho Rios grow. We are committed to the development of the entertainment product and Brand Jamaica,” Konteh shared.
