Regional veterans to feature in Women’s Super50 cricket
ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — When the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup bowls off on February 24, a host of seasoned campaigners will be suiting up for their respective countries when the action gets underway in St Kitts.
Defending champions Jamaica will rely on the batting prowess of 33-year-old stalwart Stafanie Taylor, who has been parading her skills since 2008, and is still one of the region’s most decorated batters.
Trinidad and Tobago will be bolstered by the inclusion of 36-year-old veteran off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, whose crafty bowling and leadership is expected to be crucial for the Karishma Ramharack-led side.
Barbados will have 32-year-old fast bowler Shamilia Connell in their ranks to lead their attack, along with the Knight twins, Kycia and Kyshona who are expected to factor with the bat.
Windward Islands is set to benefit from the experience of 42-year-old Pearl batter Etienne, whose presence adds stability and grit to their squad.
Meanwhile, in a groundbreaking move for women’s cricket in the Caribbean, the entire tournament is to be broadcast live on ESPN Caribbean.
For the first time, all preliminary round matches and the final at Warner Park will be televised, marking a historic milestone in the growth and visibility of the women’s game.
This year’s tournament also features an increased incentive for teams, with the champions set to take home a prize of US$30,000, while the runner-up will secure US $15,000.
