McDonald just misses out on 400m meet record at Gibson/McCook
KINGSTON, Jamaica — World Indoor bronze medalist Rusheen McDonald ran a season’s best and well judged 45.53 seconds to win the men’s 400m open at Saturday’s Gibson/McCook Relays held at the National Stadium.
McDonald just missed the meet record 45.50 set in 1984 by Bert Cameron as his MVP training partner Wendell Miller of the Bahamas was second in 45.57 seconds and former national champion Demish Gaye was third in 46.37 seconds.
Earlier, St Jago High’s Ryan Achau won the men’s 1500m Open, running three minutes 52.06 seconds to beat his Kenyan compatriot Peter Njuguna of Kingston College who was second in 3:57.58. Rahiem Walker was third in 4:09.52.
