Gibson/McCook Relays: Edwin Allen and Holmwood win 4x800m

KINGSTON, Jamaican — Edwin Allen High and Holmwood Technical won the high school boys’ and girls’ 4x800m events at Saturday’s Gibson/McCook Relays at the National Stadium.

Edwin Allen High had finished fourth but were promoted to first place after the disqualification of the top three schools- Calabar High, Jamaica College and last year’s winners Kingston College.

Edwin Allen won with seven minutes 52.96 seconds, faster than the seven minutes 57.72 seconds they ran two weeks earlier at the Western Relays. On Saturday they were followed by William Knibb Memorial- eight minutes 01.93 seconds and Clarendon College- eight minutes 10.01 seconds.

Despite not being able to match the season’s best eight minutes 49.82 seconds they ran at Western Relays, Holmwood Technical proved their win was not a fluke as they won at Gibson/McCook in 8:54.06, beating Hydel High-9:04.31 and Convent of Marcy Alpha Academy- 10:32.52.
