Geoffrey Maxwell, the former Jamaica national player and coach, has died.
He passed away on Saturday morning after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Maxwell represented Jamaica as a defender before taking up a career in coaching.
He guided his alma-mater Excelsior High to Manning Cup and Walker Cup titles in the 1980s, and also won the national premier league with Waterhouse in 1998.
The well-travelled coach also had stints at Santos, Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens, St George’s SC, Humble Lion, Maverley/Hughenden, Hydel High among other teams at the national and schoolboy level.
Maxwell was among four football stalwarts honoured by the Jamaica Football Federation last year for their contribution to the sport in the island. The other honourees were Leander Marshall, Everton “Bob West” McLeary and Allan “Skill” Cole.
