Fight over man lands two women in court
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A fight between two women, over a man they are both said to be romantically involved with, will continue in the courts as efforts at mediation failed when the case was first called up in St James Parish Court.
Deandra Chung is facing a charge of unlawful wounding against Noella Leslie while Leslie faces a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm against Chung.
According to court records, on January 18 Chung — who shares a child with the man in question — allegedly went to Leslie’s house, which is next door to her dwelling, and the two women had a confrontation which led to a fight. The allegations are that during the brawl Leslie used a glass bottle to injure Chung, while Chung inflicted a wound to the side of Leslie’s head.
“So where is the gentleman you are fighting over?” presiding judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce asked the women, who admitted he was not present in court on Wednesday.
Chung then informed the judge that the man in question is the father of her child and currently lives with her.
“I heard rumours that she [Leslie] and my baby’s father were involved; he admitted it to me and I told him to make a choice,” she added.
In response, Grant-Pryce pointed out to the women that the man had not been loyal to either of them.
However, Chung went on to explain that on the day in question, she spotted her child’s father at the side of the dwelling where Leslie lives and enquired about his presence there. According to her, she then pushed the door open and saw Leslie inside.
“Before I could say anything at all, Miss Leslie grabbed me, threw me on the bed, and used her cellphone to hit me in my face… My babyfather then came in and pulled her off. At the point when he pulled her off she was still holding on to me,” Chung told the court.
Having listened to both sides, Grant-Pryce subsequently directed the issue to a mediation session with a mediator in court; however, the process did not yield a successful resolution.
A new mention date was set for March 14 and the women’s bails were extended.
