Calabar win two 4x200m relays at Gibson/McCook
KINGSTON, Jamaicans — Calabar High won two of the four high school boys 4x200m relays, including a record in the Class 3 event, at Saturday’s Gibson/McCook Relays at the National Stadium.
The Calabar Class 3 team ran a new meet record one minute 31.30 seconds, beating the 1:31.39 set by Kingston College in 2018.
They also took the Class 2 event that was run in two sections, running 1:27.19, ahead of Wolmer’s Boys who were second in 1:27.69 and Petersfield High who were third in 1:27.83.
Two races were contested as the organisers had upheld an appeal from Jamaica College that they were obstructed in the preliminary rounds and they were added to the field.
A blistering third leg from William Knibb Memorial’s Jabari Matheson led them to a brilliant 1:26.05 to win the Class 1 final, with Herbert Morrison taking second with 1:27.11 and Calabar High third in 1:27.34.
Jamaica College won the Class 4 final, clocking 1:35.60 to beat Wolmer’s Boys who were second in 1:37.46 and Kingston College who were third in 1:38.31.
Hydel High, who were sixth after the first round, won the girls open 4x200m in a time of 1:36.26, beating Holmwood Technical who were second in 1:37.31 and St Jago High who were third in 1:39.09.
