WATA invests in women’s football as local premier league enters new chapter
Wisynco Group Limited, through its WATA portfolio, has thrown its support behind the recently launched Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL), investing $550,000 in the programme.
Launched on February 12 at the Jaguar Showroom in Kingston, the event brought together a number of key sports industry stakeholders to witness the beginning of a new era for women’s football in Jamaica. As a long-standing supporter of football development — particularly through its investment in schoolboy football — Wisynco continues to be a key partner in the growth and transformation of the sport.
Reinforcing its commitment to building Jamaica’s football programmes, Brittany Roberts, brand manager, WATA portfolio, Wisynco Group, spoke on the significance of the partnership.
“The Jamaica Women’s Premier League is more than just a competition — it is a platform for young athletes to develop their skills, build leadership, and grow into future stars. At Wisynco, we believe in building strong communities and investing in youth development, which makes this partnership a natural fit. We are excited to help these athletes stay refreshed and ready to perform at their best throughout the season,” Roberts said.
The 2025 season also marks a turning point for the league’s structure, with Professional Women’s Football Jamaica Limited (PWFJL) serving as the official management body. The organisation is focused on enhancing the league’s marketing, commercialisation, and long-term development.
Christina Hudson, chairperson of PWFJL, spoke on the broader mission to elevate women’s football in Jamaica.
“Our goal is to build a sustainable league that not only increases visibility but also strengthens club structures and creates long-term opportunities for players. With the right partnerships and stronger visibility, the league will keep growing and cement its place as a leader in women’s football across the region,” Hudson said.
With 11 teams set to compete this season, the JWPL will showcase a diverse range of football talent from across the island. Participating teams include Arnett Gardens FC, Cavalier SC, UWI Women’s FC, Frazsiers Whip FC, and Real Mobay AFC.
The competition is set to kick off on March 1, with support from Sherwin Williams, Hummel Jamaica, KFC, Valvoline, and Supreme Ventures.
Beyond WATA’s support, Wisynco Group, through its Powerade and TruShake brands, has further strengthened its commitment to the league, bringing the company’s total investment to $1,000,000.
Roberts emphasised that Wisynco’s continued support reflects a deeper commitment to sports development in Jamaica.
“This investment is not just about today’s competition — it is about strengthening the foundation for future generations of female athletes. Seeing the growth of women’s football in Jamaica is inspiring, and we are excited to be part of that progress,” she said.
