Two arrested in massive firearm, ammo seizure at Newport West
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police this week arrested two individuals in connection with a recent massive firearm and ammunition seizure at Newport West, Port Bustamante in St Andrew.
Reports are that a team from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), operating under the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC), intercepted a container shipped from the United States where they uncovered 66 firearms, including 16 high-powered rifles, along with over 4,700 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The individuals were arrested on Wednesday, February 19. They have not been identified.
The arrests come as law enforcement intensifies efforts to dismantle gun smuggling networks supplying Jamaica’s criminal underworld.
Investigations are ongoing.
