‘Tegat’ Davis, Peart charged with leading MBU to immediate and long-term success
CHAIRMAN of Montego Bay United (MBU), Yoni Epstein, has expressed confidence that newly appointed Head Coach Paul “Tegat” Davis and Technical Director Andrew Peart will guide the club to success in the future.
Davis replaces Argentine-born Coach Rodolfo Zapata who unexpectedly stepped down last week. His departure sent shockwaves across western Jamaica as he had led the team to an impressive record of 13 wins, six draws, and four losses in 23 matches this season.
Davis is no stranger to MBU, having guided the club to its last premier league title in 2016. Epstein believes that both Davis and Peart will bring valuable experience, adding that the club is eager to achieve great success this season.
“The club has taken the decision to bring in experience and vision. Tegat is known as one of Jamaica’s best attackers and he also won the club’s last championship in 2016,” Epstein said while emphasising the importance of Peart’s role in shaping the club’s long-term future.
“He knows how to get the job done. Andrew, albeit highly decorated himself, knows how to get the job done but we have to have a focus on the future — and that is why we have decided to bring in a technical director. The duo will take us to domestic and regional success,” he added.
Epstein highlighted Davis’s track record of winning titles and his deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
“With league titles already under his belt at both Arnett Gardens FC and Montego Bay United FC, Tegat brings a winning pedigree and a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level,” Epstein noted.
In addition to the coaching changes, Epstein revealed that several senior professionals have been appointed to strengthen MBU’s bid for this year’s Jamaica Premier League title and qualification for the Caribbean Club Championships.
“As a club we took a deliberate approach in evaluating what was needed for both short-term success and long-term dominance,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the leadership team working alongside key staff members — including Dillion Thelwell, Loxley Reid, the strength and conditioning unit, and physiotherapist Dr Kevin Christie — will provide a strong foundation for the club’s future.
“We are committed to building a winning organisation from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on youth development,” he stated.
“We believe that by strengthening the pipeline of talent within Jamaica, Montego Bay United FC will not only reclaim domestic glory but also establish itself as a powerhouse in the region for years to come,” Epstein said.
MBU currently sit third in the Jamaica Premier League standings with 48 points, trailing leaders Mount Pleasant Academy by 10 points. Arnett Gardens are second in the standings with 51 points.
With Davis and Peart now leading the charge, Epstein pointed out that they remain focused on closing the gap and pushing for another premier league title.
“The board of MBU stands fully behind this team and its mission. We thank our fans and wish to assure them that we’re heading in the right direction for both the short and long term of the club,” he underlined.
