Lilliput and Flankers win to stay on top of their zones
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Lilliput Rovers and Flankers FC scored big wins on Sunday to maintain their positions at the top of their respective zones in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League.
Mark Williams scored four goals for Lilliput Rovers in their 6-2 come-from-behind win over defending champions Granville United, while Flankers were 2-0 winners over Cambridge United.
Lilliput Rovers are on 13 points from seven games played in Zone A, one more than Reggae Youths, who have played a game less, with Wadada United in third place on 11 points.
Flankers lead Zone B with 18 points from eight games, two more than Green Pond SC with Cambridge United on 13 points in third place.
Lilliput Rovers were beating Granville United for the second time this season after their 3-0 victory in the first round, and it was Granville United who took the lead when Kowell Rhoden scored in the fifth minute.
Lilliput Rovers, however, took over and scored six goals before the home team got another goal. Williams equalised in the 33rd minute and then gave Lilliput Rovers the lead a minute later.
Runel Brown made it 3-1 in the 38th minute before Williams completed his hat trick in the 40th minute as Lilliput Rovers led 4-1 at halftime.
Williams added a fourth goal in the 49th minute, and Ryan Baker got on the score sheet in the 60th minute before Koran Smith got Granville United’s second goal in the 65th minute.
Flankers FC got their fifth win of the campaign with goals from Sandre Moore in the 16th minute and Jevon Walker in the 56th minute after the teams had played out a 1-1 draw in the first round.
On Saturday, Reggae Youths and Wadada United played out a 2-2 draw in Mt Salem with both teams getting on the score sheet early in the game.
Sebastien Robinson shot Reggae Youths into the lead after two minutes, but Mekhi Foster responded for Wadada United in the eighth minute, and Lebron Malcolm then gave Wadada the lead in the 32nd minute.
Kemar Reid’s added-time goal, however, gave Reggae Youths a share of the points.
Green Pond SC beat Heights FC for a second time this season, running out 2-1 winners on Friday, Ketana Dawkins opened the scoring in the 15th minute for Green Pond before Jevar Maxwell levelled in the 32nd minute for Heights FC.
Garth Bromwell scored his league-leading fifth goal in the 35th minute to give Green Pond SC the win.
Junior Morgan bagged a brace for Montego Bay Boys Club as they were 2-0.
