Funcaandun leads charge in 2025 Chairman’s Trophy
THE 2025 Chairman’s Trophy, a prestigious Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest, has attracted a formidable field of 16 horses including last year’s Mouttet Mile winner, Funcaandun.
Scheduled for Sunday, February 22, the 7½-furlong (1,500m) event promises to be an exciting showdown among the top contenders.
Funcaandun, trained by Jason DaCosta, will be seeking to add another major victory to his resume. In a thrilling finish Funcaandun, ridden by Robert Halledeen, edged out favourite Legacy Isle by a neck to claim the US$250,000 purse in the Mouttet Mile on December 7.
DaCosta has also provisionally entered seven other horses, including Is That A Fact, Mamma Mia, California Crown, Thalita, Madelyn’s Sunshine, Banadura, and Chocomo.
Trainer Anthony Nunes has four entrants: Tiz Tok, Barnaby, Neo Star, and Power From Above.
Additionally, two-time current Horse of the Year Atomica, trained by Gary Subratie, will be vying for top honours.
