Crime fighting bolstered under security strengthening project
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s capacity to increase the conviction rate for murders has been bolstered under the Security Strengthening Project.
Implemented in March 2023, the project has facilitated the rollout of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) case management and station records management systems and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) jail management system, including acquisition and application of computer hardware and software.
In addition, network equipment to facilitate connection of agencies, and fibre-optic cables and network drops for JCF high-priority sites have been installed.
Computer equipment has also been delivered to the National Police College of Jamaica.
The information is contained in the 2025/26 Estimates of Expenditure, tabled in the House of Representatives recently by Finance and Public Service Minister, Fayval Williams.
A sum of $19.5 million has been allotted in the estimates for the preparation of final accounts and to conduct project audit and final project evaluation, to facilitate the conclusion of the project in June 2025.
Being executed by the Ministry of National Security with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Security Strengthening Project is intended to assist in the reduction of the rate of murders in the country, increase the proportion of police investigations of murders that result in prosecution, and the training of police officers in the use of technology in crime fighting.
