Prime Minister, we need help
Dear Editor,
The following is an open letter to Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Prime Minister Holness, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to commend your Administration’s continued efforts to improve the quality of life for all Jamaican citizens. Your commitment to advancing infrastructure, health care, and education has been evident and is greatly appreciated by communities across the country.
However, I would like to bring to your attention a pressing issue affecting the White Hall Blackstonedge community in the St Ann South Eastern constituency. Despite our proximity to the water treatment plant, approximately 1.5 miles of the lower section of our community lacks the necessary infrastructure, such as pipelines, to deliver water to our homes. As a result, while other members of the community have access to this vital resource, we are left to rely on purchasing water from unreliable sources. This situation raises significant concerns about the potability of the water we are forced to use.
Additionally, our community is facing challenges with road conditions. The roads in our area are in dire need of repair and maintenance, including the culverts and water tables. Proper road infrastructure is essential for the safety and convenience of our residents, and it directly impacts our quality of life.
Our community is home to many elderly residents, young children, and farmers who rely on these essential services. The elderly and young children are particularly vulnerable to the health risks posed by unsafe water, while our farmers depend on reliable water access and well-maintained roads to support their livelihoods.
We understand and value the Government’s ongoing efforts to provide essential services to all citizens. We believe that extending these efforts to include the White Hall Blackstonedge community would further demonstrate your Administration’s dedication to equitable access to basic life-sustaining resources.
We kindly request your support in addressing these matters to ensure that all members of our community have access to safe and reliable water, improved road infrastructure, and a well-equipped primary school. We trust that you will give this matter the urgent attention it deserves and take the necessary steps to address our concerns.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your positive response and continued commitment to improving the lives of all Jamaicans.
