George Wright re-admitted to JLP following ‘mitigating actions’, says party
Westmoreland Central Member of Parliament George Wright has been re-admitted as a Jamaica Labour Party member following what the party described as “mitigating actions”.
It’s understood that Wright underwent a series of counselling sessions prior to applying to rejoin the JLP after being having his membership revoked two years ago.
“The Membership Committee reviewed his application and considered the circumstances which lead to his independent status, along with the mitigating actions he has since taken to be re-admitted to the Jamaica Labour Party,” the party said in a statement Sunday.
According to the JLP, the Membership Committee has recommended that Wright be re-admitted and this was accepted by the Standing Commitee.
Wright was embroiled in a domestic violence controversy two years ago after a man was seen in a video hitting a woman with a stool. He subsequently resigned from the JLP.
He has not confirmed or denied allegations which suggested that he was the perpetrator.
Wright has since married the woman who was also alleged to be in the viral video.
A probe by the police did not result in any charges being laid against Wright.
Wright’s listing as a featured speaker at a JLP youth conference in Westmoreland on Sunday fuelled speculation that he had been re-admitted to the party.
