Sensational Move hunts repeat in James B Dawes Memorial Trophy
With ideal racing conditions and distance, the Gary Subratie-conditioned Sensational Move
(Sensational Slam – Money Move) is poised to dominate the $1.25-million James B Dawes Memorial Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park this afternoon.
This five-year-old chestnut horse boasts a good record this season so far, with one win and a second-place finish in two starts. His January 1 victory came over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) in a remarkable 1:06.3, demonstrating his exceptional speed and agility. He is to run the same distance today.
Sensational Move then secured a strong second place behind California Crown on February 1 over 5 furlongs (1,000m) on the round course with a final time of 1:00.2. After a slow start, he finished two lengths behind the winner, displaying a powerful closing run that highlighted his endurance and determination.
Facing a field of 11 runners with no standout opponents, Sensational Move, last year’s winner of this trophy race, is well-positioned for an easy victory. His experience, speed, and agility make him the prime candidate to take home the coveted trophy.
However, the unpredictable nature of horse racing means the outcome is far from certain. Upsets can occur, and other runners may rise to the challenge. Nevertheless, Sensational Move’s impressive record and favourable conditions make him the clear favourite.
Dane Dawkins will ride Sensational Move, aiming to replicate their previous success and bring home the James B Dawes Memorial Trophy.
The likes of Inspire Force, Jordon Reign’s, and Freedom Street should keep Sensational Move honest throughout the race.
The Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward is positioned as the 10th and final event on the day with a post time of 5:30 pm. First race is at 11:50 am.
Inspire Force, a horse that has been struggling to find his footing in recent times, will be looking to turn his fortunes around in this event. His last six outings have been dismal efforts, with him finishing out of the frame on all occasions. Despite this slump, Inspire Force has shown glimpses of his talent in the past and has the potential to bounce back with a strong performance.
Jordon Reign’s, a horse that was once considered a top contender, has clearly lost his former spark. His record last year was disappointing, with only one win in three starts, and two unimpressive finishes. However, he boasts undeniable talent and class, which he demonstrated in his heyday. Moreover, he has been training exceptionally well, which suggests that he may be on the verge of a resurgence. Don’t be surprised if he springs a surprise here and defies expectations.
Freedom Street has proven to be a costly follow for many punters, with numerous failed attempts to live up to expectations. He has been tipped to win several races in the past, only to falter and disappoint. Nevertheless, this six-year-old bay gelding has a knack for surprising when least expected, making him a wild card in this contest. His unpredictability means that he cannot be written off entirely, and he may yet pull off an upset victory.
