Mt Pleasant FA rebound to hammer Molynes United 6-2 in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former champions Mt Pleasant FA rebounded from their surprise loss to Harbour View to score a convincing 6-2 win over 10-man Molynes United in their Jamaica Premier League second-round game played at Drewsland Mini-Stadium on Thursday.
Shaqueil Bradford scored a double for Mt Pleasant who led 3-2 at halftime and leads the league with 55 points, seven more than second-placed Arnett Gardens who scored a hard fought 3-2 win over Waterhouse at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Warner Brown scored his 14th goal of the season in Arnett Gardens’ win while Bradford’s brace takes him to joint second place on 12 goals with Cavalier FC’s Jalmaro Calvin.
At Drewsland, Rushawn Livingston gave Molynes United the lead in the 14th minute but Bradford got his first in the 27th minute to level the scores.
Kimoni Bailey gave Mt Pleasant FA the lead again in the 34th minute and Nicholas Nelson extended the lead to 3-1 in the 37th minute, before Peter McGregor cut the deficit to a single goal in the 41st minute when he converted from the penalty spot.
It was all Mt Pleasant FA in the second half as Bradford scored in the 53rd minute to make the scores 4-2 and Sue-Lae McCalla in the 76th minute and Alex Marshall, who was a second-half substitute, scored in the 87th minute.
Molynes United were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when Tyrique Wilson picked up a second yellow card and was sent off.
Arnett Gardens won a third straight as they battled a Waterhouse team that has not won in four straight outings.
Waterhouse grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute when Atapharoy Bygrave headed a corner kick past the Arnett Gardens goalkeeper but Arnett Garden wasted no time in restoring parity when Brown scored from the penalty spot in the 24th minute.
The home team surged ahead in the 54th minute when Jaheim Thomas scored but Waterhouse tied up the scores in the 74th minute when Javane Bryan punished the Arnett Gardens team with a well taken goal.
Chantomoi Taylor who had replaced Kimani Arbouine in the 76th minute grabbed the winner in the 87th minute.
In the first game of the double header, defending champions Cavalier FC scored late to earn a 1-1 draw with Montego Bay United for the second time this season.
Deverow McKenzie scored his second goal of the season to give Montego Bay United the lead in the 33rd minute but Cavalier rallied late through Shaquille Stein who grabbed a share of the points, a minute into time added.
Relegation contenders, Vere United and Harbour View also ended 1-1 at Wembley Centre of Excellence, Kevaun Atkinson scoring in the 42nd minute for Vere United before Colorado Murray equalised for Harbour View in the 57th minute.
