Grace Foods pushes literacy with reading corners in five schools
GRADE one students across five primary schools in Kingston and St Andrew now have a dedicated reading space in their classroom thanks to Grace Vienna Sausages.
As part of Grace Foods ‘Good Move’ programme, the brand, through its Grace Vienna Sausages portfolio, refreshed the space of 12 classrooms at Franklin Town Primary, Calabar Primary, Holy Family Primary and Infant, St Michael’s Primary, and Shortwood Practising Primary and Infant.
“This initiative is part of our continued commitment to supporting educational institutions and programmes that promote early childhood literacy,” said Kadian Parkins, senior brand manager at Grace Foods.
She pointed out that the reading corners are meant to create an engaging environment for the children, to stimulate their minds, foster a love for reading and spark their imagination through the pages in a book.
The reading corners have been stocked with children’s books, including Grace Vienna Sausages’ The Adventures of Vinnie.
Educators at the five institutions have welcomed the initiative, commending Grace Foods for its corporate citizenry and commitment to improving early childhood institutions.
Principal of Franklin Town Primary Rohan Treleven expressed his gratitude for the support as he thanked the company for the much-needed boost.
“We are truly grateful to be a recipient of this initiative and we know it will make a big difference for our students as they have a vibrant space in which to truly enjoy reading,” Treleven said.
In addition to the reading corner upgrades to the classrooms, Grace Foods donated food items to each school in support of their breakfast programmes.
“We know and understand the importance of good nutrition in helping children to focus and learn in the classroom and at Grace Foods we are playing our part to help schools support children on their educational journey,” Parkins added.
