Bounty, Beenie team with J Balvin, Michaël Brun for Touchdown
GRAMMY-WINNING Haitian producer Michaël Brun teamed up with Columbian superstar J Balvin to solicit the musical genius of internationally renowned dancehall artistes Bounty Killer and Beenie Man for a collaboration which was featured on the official promotional itinerary for the NFL Wild Card Games.
Touchdown, a single which was conceptualised during the COVID-19 pandemic had its première on international sports network ESPN ahead of the recently concluded NFL Games.
The official music video has amassed close to 100,000 views on YouTube in less than a week.
Citing that he completely forgot about the record, Bounty Killer said he was overjoyed when he learnt the single would play an integral part of the NFL promotions.
“I didn’t even remember about this track, because we did it after the whole Verzuz Beenie Man and Bounty Killer clash because producers wanted to capitalise on that. We did the track and I never heard back anything about it until recently they said they were ready to drop it,” he said. When I saw the big promotional idea of the NFL and ESPN, it was very exciting for me. It felt like something close to the Super Bowl and you know that is huge.”
Bounty Killer admitted that when he was initially approached to be a part of the collaboration he didn’t know much about J Balvin, but realised after doing some research that the entertainer was a huge deal internationally and believed the collaboration had the legs to go places.
“I didn’t know much about J Balvin. I didn’t know his music, but when we did the song I looked him up and realised he is a huge Latino reggaeton artiste and you know reggaeton has been linked to reggae and dancehall over the years as relative music. And so, for a Bounty and Beenie and Balvin to be on the same track, we knew it would be something exceptional,” he shared, adding that he is looking forward to seeing the song’s success.
Aside from Bounty Killer and Beenie Man, Touchdown also had Jamaican influences from Grammy-winning producer Andron “IzyBeats” (Izy Are You Kidding Me), whose work include Koffee’s mega-hit single Toast. Ron Telford of Creative Titans served as executive producer, collabing with Julian Jones-Griffith of Popstyle Music.
