JLP councillor lambasts the PNP; alleges injury
CLARENDON, Jamaica –Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) representative for the Rocky Point division, Winston Maragh, is slamming several unnamed People’s National Party (PNP) councillors after he was allegedly injured during a scuffle at the annual general meeting of the Association of Local Government Authorities (ALGAJ).
“The behaviour of some PNP councillors was an embarrassment to this proud nation,” he said on Saturday.
“The use of physical confrontation to have one’s own way at the meeting is reminiscent of the 1970s, a period which we would like to erase from memory. That cannot be erased and neither can the despicable behaviour of those PNP councillors.” Maragh who is also ALGAJ President stated.
Police had to be called in to soothe tensions at the meeting where Maragh was reportedly bruised by a female councillor.
The councillor also criticised the use of certain entertainers at political rallies.
“I have noticed the characters who’re now associating with the PNP on stage and at public meetings, therefore we are not surprised at what occurred at the meeting,” Maragh said.
He claimed that neither the leadership of the PNP nor the PNP councillors present at the meeting showed any sign of remorse “even though I was injured”.
Maragh charged that the PNP deliberately disrupted the proceedings because it did not have enough support to win the presidency for ALGAJ at the meeting.
