Sensational Soul impresses in maiden win
Sensational Soul, a three-year-old chestnut colt, scored a convincing victory in a $1.05-million Maiden Condition Race for native-bred three-year-olds on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Contested over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m), Sensational Soul dictated the pace throughout, ultimately drawing away for a comfortable 5 ½-length win in a time of 1:22.4 (24.2 x 49.0 x 1:15.4).
Bred by Soul Warrior out of the Wizzard of Gold mare Red Gold, Sensational Soul benefited significantly from an equipment change, racing without blinkers and a figure-8 for.
Trainer Gary Subratie expressed his satisfaction with the colt’s performance.
“He’s getting there. He’s still green, still learning, and has a way to go,” Subratie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“Removing the blinkers and figure-8 made a big difference today. I didn’t stress him too much in his preparation for this race because I was disappointment with his last outing. Today, he showed his ability by beating some really nice horses,” he added.
With champion jockey Raddesh Roman aboard, Sensational Soul seized the lead early and set the pace, guiding Runaway Star (Robert Halledeen), Prince Roy (Phillip Parchment), and Neebuchadnezzar (Shane Ellis) down the backstretch.
As the field approached the half-mile (800m) turn, Runaway Star mounted a challenge for the lead, but
Sensational Soul swiftly dispelled the threat nearing the final stretch.
Turning for home, Sensational Soul surged forward, unleashing a powerful acceleration that propelled him to an effortless victory. Prince Roy secured second place, while Choo Blue (Samantha Fletcher) finished third.
