It’s Reggae Party Time
Party Time, a classic song/rhythm recorded by The Heptones at Studio One over 50 years ago, gets its latest update for Reggae Party Time, a compilation album by Tad’s International Record, scheduled for release on February 21.
The 21-song set has contributions from Tanya Stephens, Ginjah, Richie Spice, Jesse Royal, Fantan Mojah, Warrior King, and Hezron.
Ginjah, who has re-cast himself as a lovers’ rock artiste, delivers the ballad Sweet Like Sugah. Hezron, who enjoyed a strong 2024, does We’ve Made It, while Tanya Stephens does Some Kinda Madness with Singer J.
Push Out Your Light is the name of Richie Spice’s song, while Warrior King’s track is Positive Energy.
Anthony Red Rose represents the veterans with So Wrong, while saxophonist Dean Fraser salutes the original Party Time’s timeless horn intro with the instrumental, This Is Happiness.
The Heptones, a trio from Trench Town, recorded Party Time for producer Clement Dodd at the height of the late 1960s rocksteady craze. It was one of the songs that made Leroy Sibbles, Earl Morgan and Barry Llewellyn, arguably, that genre’s top act.
Party Time has been covered by a number of performers including Dennis Brown and John Holt.
